Money exchange firms urge public to be vigilant of suspicious and fraudulent online activity to prevent financial loss and damage

Residents of the UAE have been warned against suspicious and fraudulent online activities during the festive season to prevent financial loss and damage. They are advised to be vigilant against digital fraud and cybercrime.

Al Ansari Exchange, a UAE-based foreign exchange and global remittance company, has highlighted the importance of the public in preventing phone, text and social media scams to avoid falling victim to such crimes, especially during the festive season.

People are advised to be more vigilant of any suspicious messages, emails or phone calls, by verifying against the information on the company’s website or by calling the customer service hotline, and reporting to the relevant authorities through My Safe Society which is run by the UAE Federal Prosecution Authority (the app program available on iTunes), Dubai Police’s toll-free number (901) or the app hotline 8002626 through its online platform “e-crime” or Abu Dhabi Police’s “Aman” service or through www.adpolice.gov. ae portal.

Mohammed Bitar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Al Ansari Exchange, said: “Raising community awareness about digital fraud and scams is crucial as knowledge is the first line of defense in preventing becoming a victim of this type of crime.

“People should be warned not to respond to suspicious calls and fraudulent communications. But if they are unfortunate enough to fall victim to digital fraud, they should not hesitate to report it to the authorities to ensure that serious action is taken against fraudsters to protect and defend the stability of the community. “

Al Ansari Exchange has launched several awareness campaigns for its clients through text messages, leaflets and its social media channels. The company reiterated that it neither requests any personal information from the winners of its promotions and events over the phone nor charges for prize delivery.

They stressed that individuals who have received contacts related to prizes should go to the nearest Al Ansari Exchange branch or call the customer service hotline at 600546000 to verify the information to avoid falling victim to fraud.
