MOSCOW, Dec. 22 (AP) — Russia’s only aircraft carrier was on fire Thursday, state media reported.
The Russian navy’s flagship Admiral Kuznetsov suffered a “minor” fire while undergoing repairs at a shipyard in the Arctic port of Murmansk, state news agencies TASS and RIA Novosti reported.
Both quoted the head of the state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), Aleksey Rakhmanov, as saying the fire was quickly extinguished and there were no casualties.
Delays and accidents have marred Admiral Kuznetsov’s ongoing overhaul, which began in 2017 and was originally scheduled to end last year.

At least one person was killed and 12 others were injured following a fire in December 2019. The year before, a crane crashed on deck, causing unspecified damage, after the floating dock carrying the crane began to sink.
Rakhmanov told Russian media in June that he expected the Admiral Kuznetsov to return to service in early 2024, almost three years later than planned. (Associated Press)
