Quentin done Married, but not with the person we expected.
Peacock’s first two episodes Best Man: The Final Chapters set after 2013 best man holidayEveryone Reunited at Tropical Resort for Quentin Spivey’s Destination Wedding (Terrence Howard) and Xiomara Amani (Nicole Ali Parker). But Quentin’s on-and-off love interest Shelby (Melissa DeSouza) breaks up the festivities at the end of the first episode — after an ayahuasca-drinking, incredible lap dance , an in-depth conversation, and Quentin’s declaration of love, she and Quentin finally get married in episode 2. In a final emotional moment, Shelby also reveals to Quentin that he is her daughter Kennedy’s biological father.
Despite Shelby and Quentin’s past issues, best man Creator Malcolm D. Lee thought the hilarious couple was a solid pairing, which is why he ended up bringing them together. “Quentin lost his mum at a very young age, making money was his focus, and he had a kind of rudderless existence of his own. Shelby was always ambitious, trying to get what she wanted at all costs ,” he said of the two “wounded” characters. “They’re both a little bit selfish and need to learn how to accept each other.”
We caught up with Howard and De Souza about their characters’ incredible chemistry, their big episodes, and the scenes they reworked to show the truth about Shelby and Quentin’s journey.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Is it difficult to come back alive after a decade?
Terrence Howard: No, it’s easier because you’ve already thought about it. You’ve been through some of it, because even though we’re not filming anymore, those characters still live in our hearts. They are still growing inside you and waiting for their opportunity. The ones who really get you in your heart stay.
Melissa DeSouza: It stays with you, yes. It is indelible. Coming back made me a little nervous because my characters are always one dimensional and I don’t want to come back and repeat the same patterns. This time it has to be more for me.
Howard: I don’t think she’s one-dimensional. I love Shelby.
From Sosa: I didn’t say I didn’t love her, but I hope it’s different for me in terms of coming back. I want to show other colors. Shelby is a con man, a scene-stealer who is always full of energy. I still have to do those uplifting things, but this time I want to do more for her.
In episode 2, Quentin and Shelby have a very thought-provoking conversation on the beach about how they see themselves and each other. What do you remember from the moment of filming?
From Sosa: Originally written like this, Terrence and I both said “no”. We were in a rush with everything, so we gave Malcolm a call and we worked out the scene with him. We need to get to what’s really going on there and have a real conversation. It’s not just a joke. If we want to bring this to the right ending, then we need to talk about their real relationship and feelings. We all have our own ideas about what’s going on and what’s missing. Shelby hits the wall, and Quentin tells her to get up. There is a real reason why they treat and react to each other the way they do.
Nicole Ari Parker is amazing as Xiomara, you all had such great scenes with her. What was it like working with her?
From Sosa: We have known her for a long time. In 2000, I did a TV show with her and her husband, Boris Kodjoe. I played her best friend who was in a movie with her many years ago.
Howard: Yes, in 1998, we starred in a movie together [called Spark]. It was a beautiful friendship that developed into this lifelong bond.
From Sosa: We already know her, so we’re happy to do silly things. We have fun.
Shelby has an incredible dance scene in the second episode. Talk to me about filming it.
From Sosa: how do you feel?
Howard: I think their doubles are really, really good. [laughs]
From Sosa: I rehearsed for three hours, and then I did it in three takes. I used to dance professionally when I was younger. It’s something I want to do and ask Malcolm to do, so I’m looking forward to it. I didn’t do handstands or anything like that, so it wasn’t too hard for me. I had a great time. return, [Terrence] Don’t know anything about it. He asked me what the song was or what the dance was like, and I wouldn’t tell him anything. Even in the first rehearsal, I was wearing a robe. I didn’t want him to see anything, so he saw it for the first time when we first shot.
Howard: It’s a great day. fun.
Quentin professes his love for Shelby at the airport.tell us about the romantic moments of filming the characters.
Howard: That was the most challenging scene of my entire career. It’s hard to find the truth in that moment and speak out, but you realize [Quentin] Has been living behind a reinforced lie because he doesn’t want to be vulnerable. I hope it pays off. I tried my best.
From Sosa: They all had to lay down their arms.
