Former captain Shahid Afridi will head the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) new interim selection committee, officials said on Saturday, the latest change following the team’s defeat by England.
The PCB underwent a major overhaul on Thursday, with a 14-member management board taking over after Ramiz Raja was sacked as chairman.
The main committee, led by former chairman Najam Sethi, also sacked chief selector Mohammad Wasim before appointing Afridi.
Former players Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar were also named as selectors, the PCB said.
The changes come after England whitewashed Pakistan 3-0 at home for the first time this month.
“I am honored to have been given this responsibility,” said Afridi, who retired from international cricket in 2017.
“We need to get back to our winning ways and I have no doubt that through meritocracy and strategic choice decisions we will help the national team perform well.”
Afridi played 27 Tests, 398 one-day matches and 99 20-20 international matches in his Pakistani career.
Pakistan are currently involved in a two-Test series against New Zealand, with the first starting in Karachi on Monday.
