ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: Theertha Satish captains UAE in tournament’s inaugural edition

New Delhi, December 24: Left-handed batsman and keeper Theertha Satish will captain the UAE team in the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa from January 14-29 next year, the UAE Cricket Board announced on Saturday. Theertha, 18, has made 33 T20I appearances for the UAE senior women’s team since 2021. “The UAE women’s team continues to demonstrate an admirable approach to team cohesion, with all players complementing each other and delivering consistent game-winning performances.

The UAE secured their place in the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup with a five-match sweep of this year’s Asian qualifiers in Malaysia. They are drawn in Group D with India, Scotland and South Africa U19 teams. The UAE kick off against Scotland on January 14, followed by India and South Africa on January 16 and 18.

“UAE women have had great success in 2022, and through these successes we are now part of history, competing in the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup – our collective reward for all the hard work put in by everyone. The top three teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super Six, in which teams will be divided into two groups of six. The top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals, which will be held at the JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on January 27. The final will be held at the same venue on January 29.
