The UAE has the most competitive industrial sector in the Arab world: UN report-News

The latest United Nations Industrial Organization (Unido) Global Index released on Sunday ranked the UAE 30th in the world in its 2021 Competitive Industrial Performance Index (CIP) report, which tracks 152 countries

According to a United Nations report, the UAE has the most competitive industrial sector in the Arab world. The report reaffirmed the country’s position as the fastest-growing, most modern and most competitive industrial leader in the region.

The latest United Nations Industrial Organization (Unido) Global Index released on Sunday ranked the UAE 30th in the world in its 2021 Competitive Industrial Performance Index (CIP) report that tracks 152 countries.

Globally, Germany ranks first in CIP 2021, followed by China, the United States, Japan and South Korea. The UAE is the only Arab country to receive a “high performance” rating in the index, ranking third in the Middle East, after Turkey and Israel.

A statement from the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology stated that the UAE has risen 5 places in UNIDO’s CIP since 2020 and 9 places since 2017, “demonstrating the competitiveness of the country’s industrial sector and its business ecosystem. force.”

The statement stated that this achievement is in line with the national industrial and advanced technology strategy, running 300 billion yuan.

The Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, stated that the UNIDO report reaffirmed the UAE’s global reputation for developing an innovative industrial ecosystem based on advanced technologies and solutions for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The rapid development of the UAE as a global industrial pioneer “is a good testament to the foundation laid by our leadership, who paved the way for dynamic and sustainable economic growth in the next 50 years and beyond,” the minister said.

“The UAE’s continued progress in UNIDO’s CIP demonstrates that we are successfully achieving the goal set by the ‘300 billion action’. Due to the country’s attractive business environment for local and international investors in the industrial sector, the UAE is consolidating its Position as a global destination for pioneering industries of the future,” Al Jaber said.

Infrastructure, industrial progress

The United Nations report points to the UAE’s progress in the infrastructure and business ecosystem of the industrial sector. It mentioned the UAE’s strategy to achieve sustainable growth in the industrial sector by integrating advanced technologies, promoting science-based education, balancing industrial progress and environmental sustainability, and encouraging innovation.

The minister stated that the United Nations Index monitors the growth of the UAE’s industrial sector by identifying the main characteristics of the country’s industrial development model and linking it to the UAE’s 2021 vision and the 2014 national agenda.

“The UAE’s vision and agenda are to create a knowledge-based economy and help the country climb the global index. To achieve these goals and manage strategies, the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) was established in July 2020,” the ministry The statement said.

The UNIDO Index assesses and measures the industrial competitiveness of the global economy through three main dimensions: the ability to produce and export manufactured goods, technological deepening and upgrading, and world influence. These three dimensions are divided into eight indicators.

The report revealed how the UAE has rapidly improved the global industrial rankings by improving the industrial performance of four of the eight indicators, marking a huge leap for the industry. The UAE’s per capita manufacturing exports rose by 14 places, from 31st to 17th, while its total manufacturing exports rose to 32nd.

The UAE’s per capita manufacturing value added is currently ranked 28th in the world, and its share of manufactured goods in its total export portfolio has also risen by 8 places, from 115th last year to 107th.

“MoIAT’s efforts, through its initiatives, focus on the smart industry, adopt 4IR applications and solutions, strengthen the foundation of the knowledge economy, and increase the industry’s contribution to GDP. The UAE intends to continue its efforts in the near future,” the statement said.

The United Nations report praised the UAE’s industrial development model and pointed out that the country has allocated various resources and efforts to transform into a knowledge-based economy by supporting innovation and R&D. According to the report, the UAE is also promoting education in accordance with world-class standards and is balancing infrastructure development and environmental protection.
