Three musicals featuring plants, pickpockets and percussion will be staged at Tulane University’s Summer Lyric Theater in 2023.
Midyear musicals include The Musician, Little Shop of Horrors and Oliver.
Tickets for the three performances will be available at box offices beginning in mid-March and will take place on stage at Dixon Hall on the University’s Uptown campus.
Meredith Wilson’s “The Musician,” set to run June 15-18, is about a clever con man who sells bands to unsuspecting towns across the Midwest and his must-have obsession Take the local music teacher who keeps the secret. It’s full of memorable songs, including “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Shipoopi,” and “Till There was You.”
A man-eating plant from outer space lands in a ghetto flower shop when “Little Shop of Horrors” runs July 6-9. Charles Dickens’ classic story “Oliver Twist” will air “Oliver” July 27-30. The show’s coming-of-age story of a British homeless boy and his not-so-delicious sidekicks is full of stage classics like “Consider Yourself,” “Food, Glorious Food,” and “Whenever He Needs Me.” “.
