BATON ROUGE (United States), Dec. 28 (AP) – A 57-year-old homeless man died of freezing temperatures on Christmas Day as he tried to travel from Louisiana to Tennessee, officials said. State looking for family.

Charles Wilson Ligon Jr. was found dead by hunters in southern Mississippi on Monday. According to The Times, Ligan was wearing a light jacket and had money and a mobile phone on him.

“We were able to notify next of kin and apparently the family was trying to work with him to get him back to Tennessee. But he had no way of getting a bus ticket or sending him money,” Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage told the Biloxi Herald Sun report. “He doesn’t have a current ID card and that’s why he can’t get these things done. The family is trying to get him there.”

Ligon left Slidell, Louisiana, without a vehicle, in mid-December and was living in the woods when he died, Turnage said.

A dizzying blizzard of snowstorms, freezing rain and freezing temperatures stretched from Maine to Seattle over the holiday weekend, killing at least 49 people across the country.
