NEW YORK, Dec. 29 (AP) — The world’s population is expected to reach 7.9 billion by New Year’s Day 2023, an increase of 73.7 million since New Year’s Day 2022, the U.S. Census Bureau said Thursday.

This marks a 0.9 percent increase in the world population over the past year.

During January 2023, 4.3 people are expected to be born and 2 people will die every second globally, the Census Bureau said.

The US population on New Year’s Day 2023 is projected to be 334.2 million, an increase of 1.5 million, or just under 0.5%, since New Year’s Day 2022.
