ABU DHABI, 30th December, 2022 (WAM) — The World Padel Tour, WPT, the world’s leading professional padel circuit, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, ADSC, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi ( DCT Abu Dhabi) and property developer Modon have announced Abu Dhabi as the host city for the inaugural Abu Dhabi Padel Master Championship.
The event, held at Bab Al Nojoum, Hudayriat Island, 21-26 February 2023, featured 128 of the world’s top padel players at the Modon Abu Dhabi Padel Master.
The Modon Abu Dhabi Padel Master 2023 will be organized by the Global MICE Organization Limited (GMOL Events) and organized by ADSC in partnership with DCT Abu Dhabi, it will be the only Masters competition held by the World Padel Tour in the Middle East for the next five years.
The announcement was made at a press conference in the presence of Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary General, ADSC; Saleh Mohamed Saleh Al Geziry, Director, Tourism, DCT Abu Dhabi; Saeed Ali Obaid Al Fazari, Executive Director, Strategic Affairs, DCT Abu Dhabi; Modon Properties Bill O’Regan, CEO; and Namir Hourani, Managing Director of GMOL Events. Alex Corretja, Vice President of the World Padel Tour and former professional tennis champion, delivered a virtual keynote address, highlighting the importance of the World Padel Tour coming to Abu Dhabi.
Al Awani said: “We are delighted to announce Abu Dhabi as the host of the World Padel Tour Master Championship and invite everyone to come to the UAE capital to witness the best players in the world compete on Hudayriat Island, reaffirming that Abu Dhabi hosts the top Competence sporting events at international events. Padel continues to gain significant traction in the UAE with dozens of new world-class facilities, increasing grassroots acceptance and interest in the sport.”
Al Geziry added: “Padel Tennis has become one of the most popular paddle sports events and enjoys a high reputation in international sporting events. We are delighted to host 128 of the world’s top men and women competing on Hudayriyait Island in Abu Dhabi and we look forward to Local and international visitors are welcome to the UAE capital to enjoy the game and all that the city has to offer.”
Modon Abu Dhabi Padel Master 2023 will be the first Masters of the 2023 WPT season and one of the few annual Masters in the world. Abu Dhabi joins Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Marbella, Valladolid and Madrid as the latest cities to host the WPT Masters, the most prestigious event on the WPT Tour race.
Corretja said in a virtual address: “We are delighted to host the new Masters Championship in Abu Dhabi, which has positioned itself as a world-class leisure and sports entertainment destination with high-quality facilities and excellent infrastructure. Not only will this be the WPT’s first Masters of the 2023 season, it will also be the only Masters held in the Middle East, building on the prosperity the sport continues to witness in the UAE.”
The Modon Abu Dhabi Padel Master 2023 will be held at Bab Al Nojoum, Abu Dhabi’s glamping site on Hudayriyat Island, the main leisure destination for Modon Properties. Located off the west coast of Abu Dhabi, the island has quickly become one of the emirate’s most exciting sports destinations. It features a range of high-end sports facilities that add fitness-themed fun to the picturesque surroundings while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
The 2023 Modon Abu Dhabi Padel Masters will be held from 21-26 February, with 128 top male and female players competing in the main draw, while the qualifying rounds will be held from 18-20 February. The Master Tournament is the WPT’s premier tournament, rewarding the highest-ranked player on the entire tour. The Modon Abu Dhabi Master will award a total prize pool of €450,000, the largest ever awarded by a WPT tournament.
