His Excellency Zaki Nusseibeh welcomes the newest future diplomat of the UAE

His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh, cultural adviser to the President of the UAE and board member of the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA), greeted the new group of UAE students and future diplomats at today’s college orientation.

The UAE’s leading diplomatic center welcomes more than 60 students to its three courses, including the UAE Graduate Diploma in Diplomacy and International Relations, the Master of Arts in Global Affairs and Diplomatic Leadership, and the newly launched Master of Arts in Humanitarian Action and Development Program. The exciting introduction provides an overview of the college, its departments and faculty, and provides a comprehensive introduction to 21Yingshi Diplomacy of the century and what it takes to become a true diplomat in this day and age.

Students in all three projects will embark on an exciting journey during which they will meet outstanding people, experts and leaders from all over the world who will provide first-hand experience and insights into the extraordinary world of diplomacy.

Speaking to aspiring diplomats, His Excellency Zaki Anwar Nusseibeh said: “The dynamic movement of the United Arab Emirates has never been limited to its internal development projects, and our wise leadership has never neglected the importance of developing its diplomatic tools and means. Since the first day in office, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, has assumed these responsibilities.

His Excellency Bernardino León, Director General of AGDA, told the freshmen of the college: “As you know, diplomats are one of the pillars of a stable and progressive society. He pointed out that without the key role of diplomats, world affairs would collapse: “Our world today faces enormous challenges, including overcoming global pandemics, which has changed diplomacy in many ways. Dr. Mariam Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Deputy Director General of AGDA, said: “I am proud that we have welcomed the latest batch of students in the 2021/2022 academic year. I see my passion for humanitarian development and therefore join our latest humanitarian action and development literature. The students in the master’s program are also very happy. The new program is another milestone for our college and is in line with our efforts to provide high-impact training and education programs to enable young people to hold leadership positions in diplomacy and government.”

“Our world faces a variety of challenges. However, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed the meaning of diplomats. Therefore, once our students become diplomats, they must work hard to promote measurable strategies to help ensure The global vision of the UAE’s bilateral unity becomes a reality, especially in unforeseen circumstances, while meeting human needs first,” Dr. Al Mahmoud added.

Professor Eric Alter, Dean of AGDA, said: “Our core goal is to give our students a vivid understanding of international affairs, international law and foreign policy so that they can effectively represent the country, especially in unexpected crises. The dilemma our country has witnessed in recent years shows that this period is more important than ever for the government’s investment in highly motivated and aspiring diplomats who want to be part of a promising future.”

In the first two weeks of the college, students will be introduced to the principles of diplomatic studies and basic case studies, as well as lectures on diplomatic history. Future diplomats will also get insights from the famous AGDA faculty team on key topics such as China and the greater Middle East, public and cultural diplomacy, how epidemics are changing diplomatic craftsmanship, sports diplomacy, and feminism in foreign policy.

Since its establishment, the college has provided more than 200 graduates for the Ministry of Commerce. These graduates are currently serving the UAE in various missions on a local, regional and global scale. The college conducts professional research covering various topics and debates related to UAE foreign policy and diplomacy. These themes include peace and security, energy, climate change and sustainable development in the Middle East and North Africa, “21st Century Diplomacy” and “Gulf-Asia Relations”.
