ISLAMABAD, Jan 2 (PTI) Pakistan’s top military and civilian leaders on Monday vowed to show “zero tolerance” to terrorism in the country and reiterated their resolve to deal with any and all entities that resort to violence.

After the first round of meetings on Friday, Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif chaired the second round of the 40th meeting of the National Security Council (NSC). All service chiefs, key cabinet ministers, heads of intelligence agencies and other senior officials attended the meeting.

According to a statement issued by the prime minister’s office, the committee was briefed on the recent security situation, including a spike in terrorist attacks in the country, especially in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

“The National Security Council reaffirms its determination to have zero tolerance for terrorism in Pakistan and reaffirms its determination to strike at any and all entities that resort to violence. Participants agreed to bring all stakeholders to a consensus for an effective and rapid economic recovery and roadmap.

Given the efforts to alleviate the challenges of the 33 million flood victims, NSC is determined to mobilize all resources for their recovery and reconstruction, in coordination with provincial governments and multilateral financial institutions.

Earlier, the National Security Council decided to defeat a new wave of terrorism in the country at its first round of meetings on Friday.
