Shakira is determined to “continue to trust people” even when she feels betrayed.
The 45-year-old singer – who parted ways with football star Gerard Pique last year – took to social media to urge the betrayed not to lose heart.
Shakira – who has Sasha, 7, Milan, 9, and Gerard – wrote on Instagram: “Even if our wounds are still open in the new year, time tells the surgeon hands.
“Even when someone betrays us, we continue to trust others. In the face of contempt, continue to know our own worth. Because there are more kind people than rude people. There are more compassionate people than indifferent people. Few leave. Many stay with us.”
The hit maker of “Waka Waka” also suggested that heartbreak can be channeled in constructive ways.
She wrote: “Our tears are not in vain, they water the soil of our future, make us more human, and allow us to continue to love even when our hearts hurt.”
Shakira and Gerrard – who captained FC Barcelona during his playing days – announced their split in a joint statement in June.
The high-profile duo also explained at the time that they were determined to put their children first.
They said: “We regret to confirm that we are separating. We ask for privacy at this time for the wellbeing of our children, who are our number one priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”
It was also rumored that Shakira mentioned their breakup in her song “Te Felecito.”
She sings: “To finish you, I broke into pieces / They warned me, but I didn’t pay attention / I realized yours was fake / It was a drop that overflowed the glass / Don’t tell me you’re sorry, that seems sincere, But I know you well, and I know you’re lying.”
