This floating retreat in the UAE will be suspended between two mountains

Ardh Architects, the Dubai-based firm behind some of the most impressive private residences in the UAE, has revealed something different about its latest project. Dubbed Floating Retreat, the renderings released so far promise an incredibly unique glamping experience in the mountains of Sharjah, suspended between two peaks with as many as 10 clear prism pods suspended from long wooden planks.

Hanging in mid-air, the tent overlooks Sharjah’s stunning natural scenery and popular attractions such as the Al Noor Mosque and Al Majaz Park. Obviously, this isn’t the type of accommodation that anyone would love, but it’s one of the most unique and fascinating hotel projects to have popped up in the UAE in recent years.

Ardh Architects took on the project to promote environmental awareness, designing a colorful campsite where each accommodation is suspended from long wooden slabs that stretch from one mountain to the next, secured by a set of hanging ropes.

For those wanting to explore the UAE beyond Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the area around the campsite is clearly where the great outdoors is. Visitors to Sharjah often go uphill to climb, hike and cycle – all on their ‘door’ steps if they choose to stay at the Floating Retreat.

From the renderings, it appears that the tents will hang from the wooden panels at different depths so that guests can choose the depth they want.Although it’s not like you’ll be anyone less “Suspended” in the air, so those who lack physique don’t really have much choice.

Emirati architect and Ardh Architects founder Oman AlQwais describes the UAE’s floating retreat as having “a calming quality, such as [one] Experience places dominated by natural features and activities, free from human interference. “
