Samsung Showcases Home Entertainment Software and Hardware Upgrades at CES 2023

[ad_1]

As part of its CES 2023 lineup, Samsung Electronics announced new TVs, monitors and soundbars. The new monitor brings few hardware changes, but takes software-based enhancements to a new level. Here, we take a quick look at what’s trending in Samsung’s home entertainment category in 2023, which includes TVs, projectors, and soundbars.

Samsung Neo QLED monitors can now convert SDR to HDR

First, we’ll focus on the NEO QLED series, which according to Samsung will do everything you could want from a TV, offering 8K (QN900C) and 4K (QN95C) options.

The QN900C’s main selling points are its ability to output visuals at 4,000 nits of brightness, a 14-bit contrast ratio, and a hidden speaker system that can re-create sound based on software. Samsung also says it’s using machine learning to enable 8K Real Depth Enhancer Pro, which improves contrast by focusing the backlight on about 1,000 areas on the display — up from the 36 areas it used last year.

The main focus of the 4K QN95C is to deliver a more aesthetically pleasing design and efficient packaging – which it does by shrinking bezels and eliminating external connection boxes – while improving visuals with greater brightness and grayscale control. This model is also compatible with a mountable camera to help with videoconferencing and exercising.

A common feature of 2023 Neo QLED TVs is the ability to use deep learning AI and convert SDR content to HDR. While this should result in brighter, more vibrant images, Samsung also says there will be an increase in clarity. We look forward to seeing how this software feature plays out in real-world scenarios.

Samsung miniaturizes Micro LED technology to 76-inch display

Next in the lineup is Samsung’s The Wall, whose Micro LED technology has been miniaturized to offer more TV-like sizes — 76 inches. It describes this hardware as the smallest and most affordable Micro LED screen yet, but the cost of the technology may even make it more expensive than the Neo QLED display we covered earlier.

In terms of hardware features, the TV is said to offer 20-bit black detail, 240Hz variable refresh rate, 2 nanosecond response time, and a whopping 99.9% screen-to-body ratio.

4K OLED S95C improves gaming capabilities

Last on the list of TVs is the 4K S95C OLED. This model combines Samsung’s latest quantum dot and OLED technologies for increased brightness and color accuracy compared to the previous generation. The panel’s gaming capabilities are also boosted by the inclusion of the Nvidia GeForce Now platform, accessible through Samsung’s Game Center. Immersion is said to be improved thanks to the display’s 0.1ms response time, 144Hz refresh rate, and sound output through 70W 4.2.2-channel Dolby Atmos-certified speakers.

Improvements to Samsung Photo Frames, Projectors, and Soundbars

Samsung’s Frame TV, known for delivering a TV and artistic experience that many appreciate, improved slightly this year. For 2023, Samsung is adding new metal frame and wood finish options, as well as a new swivel stand in case you want to display your artwork in portrait or landscape orientation.

In terms of projectors, Samsung’s The Premiere ultra-short projector has increased display resolution and can display 8K visuals and images up to 150 inches. And Freestyle — Samsung’s portable projector — can now merge images from two different Freestyle displays through a Samsung-patented feature called edge blending. This allows for an ultra-wide combined screen on which you can enjoy the newly added Game Center.

Finally, we’ll cover the HW-S800B and HW-Q990C soundbars. Each offers Dolby Atmos and Samsung Q-Symphony support; the former helps create clear sound and a strong bass image, while the latter, paired with a Samsung TV, helps enhance audio detail. Also, if you’re looking for a slim soundbar, look out for the HW-S800B.
