This year Ramadan is likely to begin on Thursday, March 23. According to astronomical calculations, Ramadan will last 29 days, and the first day of Eid al-Fitr may be Friday, April 21.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the board of directors of the Emirates Astronomical Society, revealed the astronomical calculations and possible dates in a video.

The official Eid al-Fitr holidays in the UAE are from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3 (Hijri Islamic calendar month). If the astronomical calculations are correct, the break will be from Thursday 20 April to Sunday 23 April.

Al Jarwan also revealed a possible date for Eid al-Fitr. According to experts, the first day of the Islamic month Dhul Hijjah will fall on Monday, June 19. This means Eid al-Fitr is likely to fall on Wednesday, June 28. Arafah Day, the day before Eid al-Fitr, will most likely be Tuesday 27 June. Therefore, the holiday will be from Tuesday 27th June to Friday 30th June.
