The Polish government asked the president on Tuesday to declare a state of emergency in the two areas bordering Belarus, after the Polish border guards stated that hundreds of irregular border crossings had occurred this month.
Poland started building barbed wire along the border last week to curb the flow of asylum seekers from countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan through Belarus.

President Andrzej Duda, a close ally of the ruling Nationalist Party of Law and Justice (PiS), may approve a state of emergency, which will last for 30 days and cover Podrasky and Lubelsky lands Part of the district.
When announcing the move, Prime Minister Mateus Morawiecki said at a press conference: “The situation on the border with Belarus is a crisis, and it is still very tense.”

“The Lukashenko regime decided to push these people to the territories of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia to undermine their stability,” Morawiecki said.
Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminsky stated that the planned state of emergency will mainly apply to the border or nearby areas.
Poland also regarded Belarusian actions as retaliation for Warsaw’s decision to grant asylum to Belarusian athlete Krystsina Tsimanouskaya who refused to return from the Tokyo Olympics. Minsk has not yet responded to a request for comment.
Polish authorities have been criticized by human rights organizations for not accepting asylum seekers and for refusing to provide adequate medical services to border personnel. Warsaw said they are the responsibility of the Belarusian authorities.
