Twelve Sri Lankan cricketers will take part in the inaugural International League T20 (ILT20) match in the UAE.
The six-team Franchise Tournament will run from Jan. 13 to Feb. 12.
The 34-match tournament will be played at three venues – Dubai International Stadium, Abu Dhabi International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The six teams are Dubai Capitals, Abu Dhabi Knights, Desert Vipers, MI Emirates, Sharjah Warriors and Gulf Giants. Of the six teams, only three have chosen Sri Lankan cricketers.
Dubai Capitals, the team that will see five Sri Lankan cricketers in action is owned by GMR Sports, which owns the IPL team – Delhi Capitals.
The Abu Dhabi Knights, owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s Knights, will see four cricketers from the island nation.
The Desert Vipers, the team backed by Manchester United boss Glazer’s family, will see three Sri Lankans in their squad.
Of the 12 players, St Anthony’s College mystery roulette player Traveen Mathew, who is representing Sri Lanka’s U19 team in the 2022 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, was the only one not to feature.
The Sri Lankans selected for ILT20 are as follows:
Dubai Capitals – Dasun Shanaka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Isuru Udana, Niroshan Dickwella, Chamika Karunaratne
Abu Dhabi Knights – Charith Asalanka, Lahiru Kumara, Dhananjaya De Silva, Traveen Mathew
