ATLANTA — Tyler Perry Studios in southwest Atlanta may be expanding to include a brand new entertainment district.
Audrey Washington from Channel 2 The media mogul is understood to be looking to buy nearly 40 acres of land to expand the complex.
The 12-stage studio currently occupies more than 300 acres on the former site of Fort McPherson.

According to Fulton County property records, the deeds for the 37-acre property were just transferred to Tyler Perry Studios in late December for $8.4 million.
Lauren Sezinger lives near the property and told Washington she supports the expansion.
“Overall, I think it would be nice to have other options here,” she said.
The Atlanta City Council provided Channel 2 with renderings of the planned expansion, showing the entertainment district that Perry has been discussing for years.
In 2020, Perry said he wanted to use the land to create a district with retail stores and restaurants.

“They’d come over and patronize some actors,” Daphne said.
The director of the Georgia Film Office issued a statement Friday, which read in part:
“With this expansion of Tyler Perry Studios, and other recently announced sound stages, Georgia is poised to soon offer the largest square footage of stage space in the United States.”
The Fort McPherson Regional Redevelopment Authority approved the sale in 2021, Washington has learned.
