DEWA completes 76.8% of Hatta reservoir

Dubai – Work progress on the Hatta Reservoir project has reached a completion rate of 76.8%. The project has a storage capacity of 30 million imperial gallons (MIG) and a cost of approximately AED86 million. Completion is expected in April 2023.

This was announced by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), during the inspection, accompanied by DEWA Engineering (Water) by Abdullah Obaidullah, Executive Vice President, Water and Civil, and Branly Nassour, Vice President, Projects and Water.

The project content includes the construction of two reservoirs with a storage capacity of 30 million gallons of desalinated water, the construction of supporting buildings, and the expansion of inlet and outlet pipelines. All facilities and reservoir structural foundation works are 100% complete, ground works are 85% complete, and pipeline laying is nearly 98% complete.

Al Tayer said Hatta’s reservoirs support the Hatta Integrated Development Plan launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, by improving the efficiency and reliability of the water supply network , Improve the increase of water flow and increase of water storage capacity. This ensures water sustainability in line with Dubai’s Integrated Water Management Strategy 2030, which focuses on enhancing water resources with cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions.

Currently, DEWA is implementing a project to store 6 billion gallons of water in aquifers, which can be retrieved when needed. This will provide the emirate with a strategic reserve of more than 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day, which can be used in emergencies for 90 days, while ensuring that the quality of the stored water is not affected by external factors.
