According to plastic surgeons, ‘mommy makeovers’, nose reshaping, liposuction and breast surgery were some of the top requests from UAE clients over the past year.

A demanding “makeover” for mothers includes body contouring, or “recontouring,” through a combination of breast and abdominal surgery, says Dr. Matteo Vigo, medical director and specialty plastic surgeon at Amwaj Polyclinic.

Those procedures could include “liposuction, tummy tucks and breast augmentation,” he explained.

Dr. Matteo added that cosmetic breast surgery is another common request in 2022. “Many women ask for their implants to be replaced or removed. Implants also need to be replaced after a few years, so I see a lot of that.”

Dr Juan Carlos Barrera Rojas, multidisciplinary plastic surgeon at the London Clinic in Dubai, agrees that abdominal procedures such as liposuction and tummy tuck were among the most popular procedures last year.

“A lot of people have a sagging stomach and they ask for liposuction, but then they also need to remove the excess skin to get the results they want, which is another surgery,” he said.

Those who have shed body fat through bariatric surgery come to aesthetic clinics for body lifts or the removal of excess skin. “After bariatric surgery, the skin on the stomach, back, and chest needs to be removed,” adds Dr. Juan.

Trends for 2023

This year, Dr. Matteo said he expects there will be more interest in minimally invasive procedures — which are faster and have shorter postoperative recovery times.

He also foresees more eyelid surgery calls to remove excess skin and fat around the eyes for a better shape.

Dr. Juan added that conservative procedures such as fillers and Botox are a trend that is needed worldwide and is increasing every year.
