ABU DHABI, 8th January, 2023 (WAM) — Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in the Presidency, the National Center for Meteorology, NCM The Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF) of the 6th International Meteorological Congress 24-26 January 2023 will be held.
The forum brings together leading global and domestic experts, researchers, scientists and stakeholders to discuss the latest scientific and technological advances in rain enhancement research.
As a leading event addressing pressing water and sustainable development issues around the world, IREF provides a platform to discuss the latest developments and efforts to find innovative solutions to water security issues by promoting scientific understanding of rainfall enhancement and sharing knowledge program while emphasizing the UAE as a global hub for rainfall enhancement.
Dr Abdulla Al Mandous, Director of NCM and President of Regional Association II (Asia) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), said: “We are proud to host the 6th International Rainfall Enhancement Forum as a means of strengthening international cooperation in this important area. The event is Great opportunity to bring the scientific community together to discuss the latest developments and technologies in the field of rainfall enhancement.”
Al Mandous added that through IREF, NCM demonstrates its continued commitment to support the UAE Scientific Research Program on Rain Enhancement (UAEREP) in its efforts to improve water security for the benefit of communities at high risk of draft and water scarcity around the world.
In addition to discussing the latest developments in UAEREP’s 11 winning projects, the sixth IREF will examine water security challenges on the global climate agenda, as well as opportunities and challenges for implementing rainfall enhancement models and technologies.
The forum will cover new approaches and innovations in rainfall enhancement as well as regional and global developments in rainfall enhancement by hosting representatives from countries implementing rainfall enhancement programs and projects and discussing key lessons learned and success stories from around the world.
As part of the agenda, university students will have the opportunity to present their innovative research projects to a group of world-renowned scientists in the field of weather modification and precipitation enhancement.
The event will also announce the launch of the 5th round of the UAEEREP Awards and provide an in-depth discussion on the categories and priorities for the next cycle.
Commenting on the forum, Alya Mazroui, Director of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science, said: “The latest edition of the Forum will allow participants to discuss new science and technology as we work to advance new research in this field. I therefore urge all interested of scientists and technologists with the required expertise to join us in addressing global water security issues by maximizing the potential of this growing field of research. Three days of discussions are on our agenda, which will Provides us with an excellent opportunity to review the progress of our 11 winning projects, while also assessing the potential of research findings focused on new areas that enhance cloud formation.”
The UAE Research Program on Rain Enhancement Science is a research program initiated by the UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs and managed by the National Center of Meteorology (NCM). Through its activities, the program has established strong links with more than 1,800 researchers from more than 800 institutions in 70 countries on four continents. In terms of new research, UAEREP supported the publication of 84 scientific articles, granted 5 patents and contributed to more than 100 conference proceedings.
