KATHMANDU, Jan 9 (PTI) Nepal’s newly appointed Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said on Monday that collective efforts are crucial to achieving prosperity, as he is confident that the new parliament will successfully meet the expectations of the people.

Prime Minister Prachanda also said in the first House sitting after the November general election that Parliament should be a “testing center” for lawmakers.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari called the first session of the new parliament on January 9.

Prachanda told lawmakers that the people elected them on condition that “we provide good governance and prosperity, and for that to make sense, Parliament should be seen as a testing center,” My Republic newspaper reported.

He said political parties should unite as one to fulfill the common promise of good governance and prosperity made to the people in the elections.

He also made it clear that political parties have no choice but to address the people’s expectations, complaints, interests and concerns immediately.

Prime Minister Prachanda said collective efforts are crucial to achieving prosperity and expressed confidence that the new Parliament will successfully meet the expectations of the people.

He also expressed hope that they will find solutions to the problems arising in the country only through the politics of action and not the politics of reaction.

The Prime Minister said he considered the entry of a new party into the House of Representatives a victory for democracy and civil liberties. He urged all political parties to look beyond emotion and excitement and focus on the grand campaign of economic prosperity.

Janamat party chairman CK Raut said in his speech that it was a new feeling for him to stand in the parliament, especially considering that the parliament had banned his name.

The contributions of inclusive and participatory democracy make this possible, Lauter said.

“Especially in a place where the use of my name is banned, it’s a new feeling for me to stand up and speak out for myself. I want to thank the democratic system and the people,” said Lauter, who has been involved in the separatist movement.

CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal said that the lawmakers should be working in a way that the people feel proud of their elected MPs.

“We should learn from the past and move on,” he said, urging lawmakers to focus on people’s problems and work to fix them.

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman Rabi Lamichhane said the government will show no mercy when it comes to corruption.

“The government stands firm against corruption 24/7,” he said.

Parliament should also actively investigate past corruption cases, he said. He said political parties, leaders and MPs should not exert pressure or try to influence any investigation into corruption.

Speaking to reporters later, Prachanda said he was confident of getting a vote of confidence. “Not only am I confident that there will be a vote of confidence, but I am confident that the entire House will be united in the vote of confidence.”

Prachanda, the 68-year-old leader of the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Center, dramatically withdrew from the pre-election coalition led by the Nepal Congress and joined forces with Nepal to be sworn in as prime minister for the third time on December 26 last year. Opposition Leader KP Sharma Oli.

He was appointed Prime Minister with the support of 169 HoR members under Article 76, Section 2 of the constitution.

A prime minister appointed through such terms must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days of appointment.

Prachanda needs 138 votes to secure an absolute majority in the House of Representatives. He has the support of seven political parties, including Oli’s Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) and the newly formed Rasterias Vatantra Party (RSP).

He is likely to seek a vote of confidence on Tuesday. After the vote of confidence, the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will begin.

According to the constitution, the speaker and deputy speaker should be elected within 15 days of the first parliamentary meeting.
