[ad_1]

Islamabad [Pakistan]Jan 9 (ANI): Head of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and ex-Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday at an extra meeting in Islamabad at the Toshakhana (gift depository) reference case in Islamabad, Pakistan The Express Tribune reports.

The court is hearing a plea by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to file criminal charges against Imran Khan.

The court accepted Imran Khan’s plea to be excused from attending on health grounds. On the other hand, ECP lawyer Saad Hassan asked the court to issue an arrest warrant against Imran because the presence of the PTI chairman was essential as the hearing was essential. According to reports, this is a criminal case.

However, lawyers for the election watchdog have insisted that Imran’s request for immunity will not be heard until he appears in person.

The court questioned whether a power of attorney could be given to someone on behalf of the head of PTI. It insisted that the request for immunity was not made by Imran himself, The Express reported.

ECP lawyer Saad Hassan added that neither a power of attorney nor Imran’s signature was submitted in the application.

On December 15, the court accepted the sustainability of the committee’s petition against Imran

In a three-page judgment, the court noted that, on its face, the declaration of assets submitted by the head of PTI to the ECP was incorrect.

Imran was disqualified under Article 63(1)(p) of the constitution, the watchdog’s order said.

Today, Imran’s lawyer, barrister Ali Zafar, filed a writ petition with the IHC on his behalf, praying for the order to be declared “contrary to established principles of law” under Section 63.

Earlier, the ECP had sought a case against Khan, alleging that he misled officials about the gifts he received from foreign dignitaries during his tenure as Pakistan’s prime minister. The Election Commission of Pakistan has demanded a three-year prison sentence for Imran Khan, as well as a fine, Dawn newspaper reported.

According to Toshakhana references, Imran Khan “deliberately concealed assets related to Toshakhana gifts he received” in “balance sheets filed in 2017-2018 and 2018-19”, mainly in 2018 and 2019.

The gifts were purchased from Toshakhana at an appraised value of Rs. 21.5 million, while they were valued at PKR 108 million. The Pakistan Democracy Movement filed a lawsuit against the head of PTI in August.

According to the Dawn newspaper, the Pakistan Democracy Movement filed a reference against Khan because he “failed to disclose” Toshakhana’s gifts and proceeds from an alleged sale to National Assembly speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. The reference was then forwarded to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja for further action.
