riyadh [Saudi Arabia]Jan. 10 (ANI): Saudi Arabia announced on Monday that there is no limit to the number of pilgrims who can make the Hajj this year, Arab News quoted the country’s Hajj and Umrah Minister Rabia as saying.

Speaking at the Hajj Expo 2023, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah said that the number of people participating in Hajj this year will return to pre-pandemic levels and that there will be no age limit for Hajj pilgrims this year.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Hajj and Umrah Ministry tweeted: “During the opening of #Hajj_Expo 2023, His Excellency Dr Tawfiq AlRabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah, announced: ‘1444H Hajj pilgrim numbers will resume due to coronavirus pandemic previous level without age restrictions’.”

Some 2.5 million people took part in the Hajj in 2019, according to Arab News. However, the number of pilgrims has decreased over the next two years due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier on January 5, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia announced that people residing in the country who wish to perform the Hajj this year can apply for the Hajj, according to Arab News. Four categories of pilgrimage packages will be provided to local residents, the ministry said.

Those applying for the haj must hold national or resident status valid until mid-July, Arab News reported. Pilgrims are required to have proof of COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccinations.

Additionally, they need to obtain proof of ACYW quadruple meningitis vaccination at least 10 days prior to arrival at the Holy Land. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia is calling on all applicants to register directly through its website and not to use the same mobile number for multiple applications. (Arnie)
