A family entertainment center off Interstate 20 will open in Moody’s in late 2024.
The city signed a development agreement Monday for the 60,000-square-foot project, which will feature a bowling alley, trampoline park and other attractions and serve as the backbone of the entertainment district.
The city’s agreement with Signature Developments and Starz events will place the project on 6.7 acres currently owned by the city’s Commercial Development Authority (CDA).
According to the city, the agreement will allow for the transfer of the property to the developer with certain personal and commercial guarantees to repay the city for the appraised value of the property within 10 years. The developer has 24 months to open.
Developer Shafiq Samji said the center would be “tailored to the interests of local residents”.
“Moody is a fast-growing community with incredible potential, and we believe this project is a great fit,” Samji said. “We want to open the facility today, but a lot of the equipment is purpose-built and will take months to receive and install after the building is completed.”
Moody Mayor Joe Lee said the CDA owns the property, which gives the city leeway in terms of site selection.
“This is a project that both the citizens and our council want to see in our community,” Lee said. “A desire to see more family entertainment options was expressed during our recent community input meeting for the city’s comprehensive plan ‘Moody at the Crossroads’.”
