As previously predicted by experts, Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana on Sunday in the form of a Category 4 hurricane. Millions of people live on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, and the damage caused by the storm includes power outages, floods, and lack of shelter and basic resources.

Now, CNN reports that due to rising temperatures, power outages are expected to continue for several weeks. There are more than 1 million people in Louisiana without electricity, more than 45,000 in Mississippi, and more than 5,000 in Alabama.

“Many of the life-supporting infrastructure elements are not running right now,” said Louisiana Governor John Bell Edwards. “Please don’t go home until they tell you it’s time.”
