Henry Golding would love to join the James Bond “universe”.
The 35-year-old actor has been hinted to succeed Daniel Craig as 007 – but Henry insists he won’t be the next Bond.
Asked if he had talked to producer Barbara Broccoli about the role, Henry replied: “No, I haven’t. I think a few people have talked to Barbara. Sadly, I am not one of them.
“However, I do know for a fact…the gears are turning for Barbara. I just hope they’re doing well. They’re going to pick the right one, the best fit, Bond.”
Still, Henry is willing to join the Bond franchise in some capacity.
Before the Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Tuesday (October 1, 2023), Henry told Variety: “I would love to be in the Bond world. Not specifically Bond, but . …Let’s play with that bunker.”
Henry also joked that he could bring some quality to the long-running film series.
The actor – whose previous film credits include Crazy Rich Asians and G.I. Ops: Snake Eyes – quips: “A sense of mystery, a charisma, good looks…we’ve done some action slice – it won’t be too hard.
Henry has previously described being associated with the Bond character as an “honor”.
The actor also believes the world is ready for a non-white Bond.
He shared: “This seems to be a question that always comes up. It’s definitely from Crazy Rich, maybe [the scene with] White suit from the park.
“I’m Asian and everyone is fighting for diversity Bond – sorry white people.
“Wouldn’t it be great for us to have this conversation? People would say, ‘Well, now is the time, why can’t we have a black Bond, an Asian Bond, a mixed-race Bond, a non-distinctive Bond?
“I don’t know … it’s an honor to be part of the conversation.”
