UAE: Here’s how students can get up to 50% off public transport in Dubai, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah

Dubai: If you are a student who regularly uses public transport in the UAE, you can get discounts on bus fares or the Dubai Metro.

To benefit from this discount, you need to apply for a smart card issued by the local UAE transport authority. Currently, schools and university students can benefit from reduced public transport costs in Dubai, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah.

However, to apply for the card, you will need to meet certain requirements and provide documents to verify your enrollment at a school or college in the UAE. That’s everything you need to know.

Dubai – 50% off on the bus, metro or tram

For students using public transport in Dubai, you need to apply blue personal nol card Issued by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Student discounts are only available on RTA buses, Dubai Metro and trams.

The blue nol card is a personalized card linked to your Emirates ID.

Student cards are valid for one year but can be renewed. If you do not renew your card, you will be charged the normal fare with no discount.

You can apply for the blue nol card through RTA’s official website – www.rta.ae – or mobile application – ‘RTA Dubai’.

Important documents:

If you are a student, you need to upload the following documents for personal nol card application:

• A copy of the front and back of a valid Emirates ID.
• Personal photos with a white background.
• Official documents proving that the applicant is a student studying in the UAE.

The fee for a student card is 70 dirhams.
The application fee is Dh50 and the balance on the card is Dh20.

Ajman – 30% discount on bus fare

In Ajman, students can enjoy special discounts on bus fares using the universal Masaar bus card.

You can apply for the card through the official website of Ajman Transport Authority – ta.gov.ae or online at Ajman Central ‘Al Musalla Bus Station’ located on Sheikh Abdullah Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Street.

To obtain the card, you will need to provide documents proving your attendance at a school or university in the UAE. These files include the following:

• Emirates ID
• Valid student card or registration letter (if required by the authority) – to apply for discounts for the student category on the card

When you sign up for the card, you pay Dh25, of which you get Dh20 as a balance to spend on the card.

Ras Al Khaimah – 50% discount on bus fares

Students taking public buses in Ras Al Khaimah can 50% off About the internal bus fare. However, the student discount does not apply to intercity bus tickets.

To get the discount, you must apply for a Silver card – available for university students and school students. You will need your Emirates ID and valid student ID for Silver.

You can buy a silver card at Al Hamra Bus Station, the main bus station in the Al Dhait area.

Silver card fee 20 dirhamsyou will get a balance of Dh10.
