Missing out on a prestigious tournament for mundane reasons such as injury or failing to qualify is certainly hard to accept, but it’s even more so when a simple memory lapse is the cause.
DP World Tour pro Romain Langasque explains he won’t be at next week’s HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi Golf Club Because of. Specifically, he forgot to sign up for the race.
The Frenchman initially described his plight on Twitter last week and asked for help to resolve the issue. He wrote: “Forgot to check in for Abu Dhabi (my fault). Still 3 invites available. This invite could change my season, even more so in @rydercup season! #needhelp @DPWorldTour”.

Given the number of invitations remaining at the time of his original request, he may have reason to be optimistic. However, according to his latest Twitter update, his hopes appear to have been dashed. He wrote: “@ADGolfChamps no invite… I made a mistake first but I really feel like I could have gotten this invite… Thanks @DPWorldTour for supporting this 👌See you in Dubai.”

While the world No. 256 player’s chances of qualifying for the 2023 Ryder Cup are Marco Simone Golf and Country Club May look slim to qualify for the bi-annual tournament until 3 September, with three players qualifying through the European standings. Langasque has even shown recently that his best form is not far off as he enters what could be a pivotal year.He tied the course record at the Old Course at St Andrews with a 61 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last September and Joburg Open end of november.
Following the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi, the DP World Tour will move on to another major event in the calendar, the Heroes Dubai Desert Classic, where even more valuable Ryder Cup points will be contested. Langasque will no doubt make sure this time around, leaving no stone unturned in his registration.
