UAE: Abu Dhabi launches hotline to manage poisoning and overdose cases

The helpline, called the Poisons Information Service, aims to prevent and treat poisoning injuries and raise awareness of the need to use medicines safely. Specially trained professionals will assist callers and the ROIC will explore further collaboration between partners in the field to develop further regulations and policies to ensure the highest level of chemical safety in the emirate.

The Ministry of Health is also looking to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s research efforts to further develop the field of clinical toxicology and improve healthcare outcomes, the RIC said.

Throughout the year, RIC will work to increase the hours of operation of the hotline until it is available 24/7, every day. In the next phase, the service will also be expanded to include guidance for healthcare professionals, and data will be collected and analyzed to aid planning, scientific research and improve efficiency.

Dr Asma Al Mannaei, Executive Director of the RIC, said in a presentation at Menatox: “The Drugs and Poisons Information Service will provide guidance to our entire community and healthcare sector, particularly with regard to the management of patients with poisoning and overdose, in line with international best practices. practices and standards. Through this service, we aim to expand poisoning prevention and treatment and reduce the incidence of accidental poisonings.”
