India, UAE ink deal on green hydrogen development, submarine cable connection

Abu Dhabi [UAE]13th January (ANI): Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’ initiative, India and the UAE have agreed to develop and deploy green hydrogen to connect India Reached an agreement with the UAE’s submarine cables.
The agreement was signed by Union Minister of Electricity and New and Renewable Energy RK Singh and UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Al Mazrouei, according to the foreign ministry. The two leaders held talks to discuss the huge opportunities in the power and renewable energy sectors for both countries.
The two sides discussed the initiation of a feasibility study for a submarine cable between India and the UAE under the mandate of the ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid Initiative’ announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Notably, RK Singh is on a three-day visit to Abu Dhabi, accompanied by a strong delegation of Indian players in the renewable energy sector.
“The two ministers also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of green hydrogen energy development and investment. The ministers also discussed the feasibility study for launching an India-UAE submarine cable in line with the mission announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on ‘One Sun , One World, One Grid initiative’,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
In a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “Both India and the UAE are leaders in the development of low-cost renewable energy. While bilateral energy relations have traditionally centered on the oil and gas sector, both countries are striving to Build strong relationships.”

During his visit, RK Singh held talks with Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, President-elect of COP28 and UAE Special Envoy on Climate Change. During the meeting, Singh congratulated Sultan Ahmad Jaber on becoming the COP28 president. He expressed his belief that Jaber’s experience in energy and climate change will play a good role in COP28.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the priorities of the two countries in the energy sector and how India and the UAE can work together for India to hold the G20 presidency. RK Singh touched on India’s priorities in the G20 energy sector, while Dr Sultan Al Jaber highlighted the UAE’s priorities for COP28, scheduled to be held in Dubai in November.
On January 14, RK Singh will chair the 13th General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). IRENA is an international organization of 168 countries dedicated to renewable energy. According to the press release, India has played a leading role in IRENA and will continue to lead global efforts to facilitate and facilitate a timely global energy transition.
“As Chair of the IRENA Assembly, India will continue to lead global efforts to promote and facilitate a timely global energy transition that is citizen-centred, just, inclusive and equitable and leaves no one behind. India will shape and align global discourse in a positive manner ways to encourage countries around the world to ensure that this is achieved,” the MEA said in a release.
India has also met its target of net-zero emissions by 2070 and is working towards meeting other commitments highlighted in the Paris Climate Agreement, the MEA said in a press release. India had pledged to achieve around 40% of its cumulative electricity generation from non-fossil fuels by 2030, and achieved this goal nine years ahead of schedule in November 2021.
It further said, “India is also moving towards the mission announced by Prime Minister Modi and UN Secretary-General last October called Mission LiFE – Lifestyle for Environment. Mission Life is an approach to disseminate healthy and sustainable lifestyles based on conservation Traditions and values ​​of moderation and moderation, which are essential to combat climate change.” (Ani)
