It was a sold out event with over 800 participants wearing T-shirts featuring items from the museum’s permanent collection and running distances ranging from 1km to 10km
Hundreds of residents got a different view of the world-class Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saturday morning. Instead of going inside to admire the masterpiece, they run around the architectural marvel.
“Community has always been at the heart of what we do at Louvre Abu Dhabi. Our museum’s narrative and programs are designed to foster cultural connections and provide moments of mindfulness for all,” said Louvre Abu Dhabi External Affairs, Outreach and said Ugo Bertoni, Director of Cultural Engagement.
It was a sold out event with over 800 participants competing in the 1km to 10km races. To give the Louvre its unique charm, all contestants wore T-shirts featuring items from the Museum’s permanent collection: runner Created by French artist Robert Delaunay.
Bertoni noted that the first edition of the Louvre Abu Dhabi Run, organized in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, aimed to provide community members with the opportunity to see the museum from a different perspective.
“As a museum that seeks to make connections, we wanted to give our museum a unique flair with this event. This run is a bridge between art and movement,” Bertoni told Khaleej era.
Participants must run to the outdoor artwork under the iconic dome to rediscover the famous building. At the end of the event, everyone received a special dome-inspired medallion. In addition, participants received an Open House ticket to visit the museum again.
“The Louvre Abu Dhabi Running Festival is part of our rich and varied program and reaffirms our commitment to engaging with all visitors,” Bertoni emphasized.
This world-class destination offers a variety of educational and community events, and recently launched a program called “Taking Over the Museum.”

“As part of the programme, we held ‘School Takeover’ events, welcoming thousands of children from across the UAE and encouraging them to explore the museum through a number of activities and experiences in one day. We also held ‘University Takeover’ events, Students were invited to present and come up with interactive workshops for the public to enjoy. And now we have runners taking over the museum.”
According to Bertoni, Louvre Abu Dhabi offers a variety of wellness and physical activities, such as “yoga in the dome”, “sound therapy” and kayaking experiences, as well as a variety of programs such as art master classes and performances.
“Our projects are always an opportunity to discover and rediscover the museum through different approaches and experiences. On January 20th we will be showing a film related to our Impressionism: Towards Modernity exhibition under the dome, and then on 2 Secret evenings for our upcoming exhibitions on the 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th of October Bollywood superstars, short stories of Indian cinemaApart from the Bollywood Film Festival in March,” Bertoni stressed, a sneak peek at what’s happening at the museum over the next two months.
