Who are you and what makes you famous?
This is Nicole Smith-Ludwick. I think my chocolate chip cookies will make me famous, but you may not have tried it. You may have seen me in an advertisement recently. I am the professional skydiver and stuntman in the Emirates advertisement standing on top of the Burj Khalifa.
How long have you lived in the UAE and what prompted you to move here?
I have lived in Dubai for more than five years. I moved here to be with my husband and work as a skydiving instructor at Skydive Dubai.
How do you do stunt work and skydiving?
This is an interesting question! I did my first tandem skydiving in 2007, and in 2011, I became a licensed skydiver. After experiencing some life-changing setbacks, I quit my job at the company and started my life as a professional skydiving coach. As a professional skydiver, I travel the world to participate in skydiving events, hold seminars, and perform compelling demonstrations, stunts and collaborations.
What is your daily work like?
Skydiving is different every day. Some days have ups and downs (hahaha, this is a bad skydiving joke)! Most of the time, I teach people how to skydive, whether they learn how to skydive by themselves, or I take them to skydive together (the students are attached to my jump). Other times, I am instructing licensed skydivers on how to become pilots or helping them with the training they need to become instructors themselves.
Do you hesitate About taking over Burj Khalifa project?
The Burj Khalifa project is the most compelling stunt performance I have ever done. I knew from the beginning that this was physically and mentally challenging, but it was something I wanted to do wholeheartedly. The team gave me a good briefing, so I know what I want to do. My condition is very good, and I accept that climbing will be challenging. I focused on reaching the top, one ladder at a time.
How do you feel when you stand on the platform?
Oh, it’s so surreal. I am very proud of myself, but also very humble. This stunt is a huge personal achievement.
What do you want people to know about the project?
In order to appear relaxed and carefree on the set, I imagined my mother and grandmother making Thanksgiving dinner together. I imagine preparing food, listening to their lively stories, and feeling the chaos that can happen when there are too many people in the kitchen.
what do you like UAE?
There are so many places in the UAE that I like; people, culture, food, desert and Karakchai. I like the safety here. I like my chance here. Dubai has collected some advantages from all the cultures represented by this city and created a vibrant metropolis. No matter where I take me in this life, I will always carry a piece of Dubai in my heart.
