UAE’s Mohamed Wasim showcased his wide-ranging attacking batting skills in Saturday night’s second match of the DP World ILT20 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, hitting a stunning 71 and leading MI Emirates Defeated the Sharjah Warriors by 49 points. He was backed by Nicholas Poulein’s 49 points to help MI Emirates take five shots off 20 turnovers and total a staggering 204 points.

Waseem has been consistent in the franchise leagues and the Emirates as he struck five boundaries and four sixes from 39 balls to make the home fans proud. Pooran’s 49 was off 30 balls, with four sixes and two boundaries.

Sharjah Warriors languished under heavy scoring pressure from MI Emirates. They win the toss and choose to pitch. Waseem started with England’s Will Smeed, hitting Naveen Ul Haq in back-to-back bats, who knocked down the second. Waseem also hit Chris Woakes’ first third over the past square leg for another boundary. On the third pitch of that game, Vokes forced Smead on base, allowing goalie Rahmanu Ragulbaaz to score 2 runs.

Andre Fletcher joined Waseem and hit the UAE’s Junaid Siddiqui on his fifth pitch in the fourth for 6 to medium wickets. The first five rounds yielded 39 points. Fletcher sped up his run in the sixth, hitting Siddiqui on three straight boundaries. This also brought the score over 50 points. Waseem also hit Karthik Meiyappan of the United Arab Emirates over six. Vokes opted for his second wicket, forcing Fletcher to beat keeper Gulbaz for 22 runs. The duo scored 47 for the second wicket.

Another power hitter, Pooran, joined Waseem and unleashed his six-strike skills. He hit the first ball of the 11th off Mohammad Nabi for six, while Wasim took the third over for another six. More sixes followed as Pooran hit Joe Denly long. Waseem also hit his half century in style, hitting Moeen Ali for six to medium wickets. Each of the 18 points was scored by Ali.

Pooran hit Siddiqui’s third over six overs and it was a feast to watch. Waseem’s stunning strike came to an end in the 15th inning when he hit Nabi for 71 off Evin Lewis. MI Emirates joined Pooran 151-3 with skipper Kieron Pollard at the end of the 15th innings.

In the last five games, MI Emirates scored 53 points and Pooran 49 to pull Siddiqui into Denly’s hands. Siddiqui also opted for the wicket of Najibullah Zadran. Pollard (22) and Dwayne Bravo (21) form a 41-game undefeated partnership. Bravo hit a long par over six on Nabi’s final innings pitch to get the score over 200.

Chasing a run rate of 10.20, Sharjah opener Evin Lewis was out, hitting Fazalhaq Farooqi’s duck on his wicket. One drop Dawid Malan also avoided a hat-trick by tumbling a trapped leg before Farooqi’s first ball forced skipper Moeen Ali to face the fifth off the second.

Then opener Gulbaaz and Ali started the damage repair. Gurbaz did most of the scoring, hitting two straight Trent Boult boundaries and hitting six runs in the sixth. Alli, after adding 49 for the third wicket, fell to Bravo, who hit Fletcher’s hand from long range. Gurbaz was not far behind, and Bravo threw 43 of 31 balls with seven boundaries.

Sharjah was 69 for 4 at the halfway mark, needing 136 runs in the last ten rounds, and the required run rate also rose to 13.60. Imran Tahir beats Tom Kohler-Cadmore by 10, allowing Joe Denly to be caught by Pollard on a long throw ) overtaken nine to allow Nabi to be overtaken by Pooran for three to secure an easy win for MI Emirates. Chris Woakes batted a grappling 62 off 29 balls with nine boundaries and two sixes to delay MI Emirates’ victory.
