‘Goal twins’ Osimhen and Kovaratskhelia fuel Napoli’s title dreams

[ad_1]

The dizzying duo of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia made Napoli’s dream come true after their five-goal sacking of Juventus made them favorites to claim their first Serie A title in more than 30 years.

Luciano Spalletti’s side have mesmerized much of Europe this season with their all-around football and the way his two star attackers combined to destroy Juve and secure a nine-point lead over champions AC Milan on Friday night showed that this time in southern Italy The biggest clubs are the real deal.

Osimhen lifted his league goals tally to 12th with a brace, while Kvaratskhelia scored his ninth goal of the season in all competitions and has a place in all other competitions as Juve And their eight-game winning streak was blown away in Naples.

The pair’s perfect cross from Kvaratskhelia in the crowning moment gave Osimhen a header in the fourth of the second half, with Napoli’s fourth at the packed Maradona stadium.

La Repubblica dubbed them the “scoring twins” on Sunday, with Roberto Mancini and the recently deceased Gianluca Vialli helping Sampdoria to their only goal in 1991. League champion.

The last time Napoli won the Scudetto was last season, at the end of Diego Maradona’s reign in Napoli before he was disgraced from Italy.

Kvaratskhelia is the closest Napoli have come to replicating Maradona’s magic, with seven league goals to match as many assists and an attacking threat to lift his side to the next level.

“He is an extraordinary player, the best player, the most complete player,” Spalletti said on Friday.

“He’s just been devastating in certain situations, and he has the guts to try.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria striker Osimene’s stunning form has him looking like the club’s best center forward since Edinson Cavani.

The 24-year-old has scored 11 goals in all competitions since returning from a thigh injury in mid-October and Spalletti believes he has more to come.

“Osimhen is such a great striker. His potential is frightening and I’m excited to see what he can do in the future,” Spalletti said.

“He still has a lot of room for improvement.”

The one downside for Napoli is that they won’t have diehard fans following them out of their hometown after they were banned from traveling for two months on Saturday.

The ban comes after ultras in Napoli clashed with Roma supporters last weekend, with a massive brawl at a service station temporarily shutting down one of Italy’s most important motorways.

However, with the exception of Juve’s trip in April, Napoli’s remaining clashes with the Italian big man have been at home, with supporters packing the stands and making loud noises for the hope of history.

If Napoli win the title, it would also be a huge personal victory for Spalletti, a respected coach and colorful figure who is known for not being able to let his ball go under pressure. The team is known for crossing the line.

Napoli were in the mix last season until April, when a string of poor results saw the title race become an all-Milan affair in its final weeks.

The debacle, and the summer departure of many fan favorites including Kalidou Koulibaly from Chelsea, sparked a rebellion as fans pleaded with boss Aurelio De Laurentiis (Aurelio De Laurentiis) sells the club.

Instead, De Laurentiis was seen bouncing through the stands with happy fans on Friday, with two deadly weapons in Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia ready to push Napoli to glory.
