Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda to visit India soon

[ad_1]

Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said he will visit India on his first foreign trip after assuming the country’s top executive post for the third time.

The 68-year-old leader of the CPN-Maoist center was sworn in as prime minister for the third time on Dec. 26 after he dramatically quit a pre-vote coalition led by Nepal’s Congress and joined hands with opposition leader KP Sharma Oli.

“I will be visiting India soon,” Prachanda told senior editors in his first interaction with some reporters after winning the vote of confidence on Tuesday. Preparations are being made at the diplomatic level for this, he said.

“The embassy concerned is making preparations for my visit,” he told reporters at the prime minister’s official residence, Baluwatar.

However, the Nepalese government has not officially announced the prime minister’s visit to India.

The date and itinerary of the visit have not yet been finalized.

“We are coordinating with our counterparts and trying to finalize the date and detailed plan of the visit as well as the agenda of the visit,” a foreign ministry official said.

The official added: “It is a normal process for the prime minister to visit neighboring countries after taking office and we have always prepared internally for this.”

Prachanda also paid an official visit to India during his tenure as Prime Minister of Nepal.

In July last year, Prachanda visited India at the invitation of Bharatiya Janata Party Chairman Nada.
