Gunmen arrested more than 70 high school students in northwestern Nigeria | Nigeria News

Zanfara State Police stated that rescue operations are underway to release 73 students kidnapped by the school in Kaya village.

Nigerian police said that gunmen kidnapped more than 70 students in the northwest of the country. This is the latest in a series of school attacks against students.

Zanfala Police spokesman Mohammed Shehu said in a statement that a large number of assailants attacked the government day high school in the remote village of Kaya on Wednesday morning and captured 73 students.

“The kidnapping happened after a large number of armed bandits invaded the school,” he added.

Shehu said that the police rescue team is cooperating with the military to try to release the students.

For many years, criminal groups known locally as “bandits” have spread fear among local communities, but the security forces have recently been trying to contain the deteriorating violence.

Since December last year, more than 1,000 students have been abducted from schools in northern Nigeria.

The gunmen asked their parents to pay a large ransom. Although most of the students were eventually released, some students have died or been killed in captivity.

At the time of the latest incident, several state governments in central and northern Nigeria-including the Zamfara state government- Imposed a series of restrictions Try to stop mass kidnapping and other violent crimes of residents.
