ABU DHABI, Jan 15 (Reuters) – India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are close to reaching a “major agreement” on renewable energy interconnection between the two countries, India’s power and new and renewable energy minister said on Sunday. “.

India and the UAE also signed a memorandum of understanding on January 13 on the development of green hydrogen production using renewable energy, the Indian embassy in the UAE tweeted on Friday.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation declined immediate comment.

The UAE and other Gulf energy producers are calling for a realistic transition in which hydrocarbons play a role in energy security while committing to decarbonisation.
