Gerard Butler wants to star in a ‘really dark satire’
The 53-year-old actor credits himself with experimenting with genres over the years, but after enjoying his time with 2008’s “RocknRolla,” he’s eager to do another gritty “black comedy.”
Asked if he wanted to do more types in the future, he said: “I don’t know if there is any type that I haven’t done…
“For me, Guy Ritchie’s movies are like ‘Rock’n’ Roll’ that I was lucky enough to do.
“That dark black comedy. Even more recently, ‘The Menu’ or ‘The Banshee of Inisherin’. Something like that, you know? A very dark satire that’s also weirdly and surprisingly personal. Maybe It’s time to revisit it.”
Next up, Gerrard will play pilot Brody Torrence in “Airplane.” Although he is interested in action movies such as the “…Fallen” series, he prefers to play “normal people” idea.
He said come online: “The ‘Has Fallen’ movies are… they’re almost superheroes. As much as you want to play a character that’s more interesting, it’s fun to play a regular guy — a regular guy. He’s a pilot. Yeah. , he needs these skills, but he is not ready for the world he is about to enter.
“He wasn’t prepared to have to travel with an accused murderer sitting in handcuffs on a plane trying to free the passengers from the militia.
“It’s something that the audience can identify with, you know? These guys who are in these dire situations, but they’re doing the best they can. They make mistakes, they get things right, they get things wrong.”
To prepare for the role, the actor spent “many, many hours” in flight simulators and sat in the cockpits of real airplanes.
He said: “I do a lot of training for this. I’m in the simulator as much as I can and then our cockpit is really … it’s a real airplane cockpit. So [I] Been there for many, many hours because I wanted to feel like I had earned my seat and not just pretended and pushed buttons. Viewers really believed they were sitting with two airline pilots. “
