[ad_1]

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The WTA on Tuesday announced the latest update and addition to its 2023 calendar, the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open.

The WTA 500 class tournament will be held on the outdoor hard courts of the Zayed Sports City International Tennis Center in the heart of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, from February 6 to 12.

The venue has a rich tennis history. It has hosted the 2021 WTA Women’s Open, which was won by Ariana Sabalenka, as well as the Mubadala World Tennis Championships exhibition event for the past 15 years. The event will enhance February’s swing in the Middle East, with Abu Dhabi kicking off the week of February 6, followed by the Qatar TotalEngergies Open (Doha) on February 13 and Dubai the week of February Duty Free Tennis Tournament 19.

“We are delighted that the Hologic WTA Tour is coming to Abu Dhabi, as the MENA region has played an integral role in the WTA’s tradition of giving women around the world the opportunity to compete at the highest level since 2001,” said Steve Said Simon, WTA Chairman and CEO. “We are delighted to be working with the event organizers to showcase our products in front of passionate fans in the region and are grateful for their commitment to building our presence in the region by staging this world-class event.”

Tournament qualifying starts on Sunday 5 February with a draw for the 28 singles teams and 16 doubles teams on Monday 6 February.
