DAVOS, 17th January, 2023 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi Space Debate, a leading space policy and strategy forum, hosted a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum. The panel was held at the UAE Pavilion on January 17 under the theme “The Future of the Planet: LEO Politics in the 21st Century”. Leading experts in the field gathered to discuss the issue of clutter in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), and the challenges and opportunities that LEO presents, currently the most valuable part of human presence in space.

Moderated by McKinsey & Company partner Jesse Klempner, the panel featured thought leaders and industry experts including Dylan Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Voyager Space, William Marshall, Co-Founder and CEO of Planet Labs, and Lockheed Martin Aerospace vice president Dan Tenney.
Home to many satellite devices, including communications, GPS and Earth observation, low Earth orbit also hosts the International Space Station. However, the growing clutter of space debris is posing an existential threat and the possibility of international conflict. The panel discussed the process of developing new regulations to protect access to this limited resource for existing and new stakeholders, from emerging space nations to private sector players, and to avoid the threat of further collisions and conflicts.
