Etihad Airways signs trajectory management contract with Satavia

[ad_1]

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has signed a groundbreaking trajectory management contract with Satavia, the UK’s leading green aerospace company.

This is the world’s first multi-year commercial production contract to integrate trajectory management into day-to-day operations.

The agreement will expand the scope of Satavia’s technology to prevent warming of aircraft wakes in everyday commercial aviation, while also allowing for collaboration in the generation of future carbon credits.

Future Carbon Credits

The partnership will build on previous proof-of-concept engagements to expand the scope of trajectory management in day-to-day flight operations. The partnership also includes an agreement to collaborate in generating future carbon credits through trajectory management activities.

The contract was signed at the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Adnec, Abu Dhabi by Mariam Al Qubaisi, Head of Sustainability and Excellence at Etihad Airways, and Dr Adam Durant, CEO of Satavia. Once the new agreement comes into effect, Etihad Airways will expand the Satavia track precautions in its daily flight schedule, accelerating the airline’s progress towards climate-neutral operations.

Condensation trails, or wakes, from aircraft warm the surface and are responsible for up to two-thirds of aviation’s climate impact, far exceeding the direct CO2 emissions of aircraft engines. Satavia’s trajectory management platform DECISIONX:NETZERO optimizes commercial flight plans for greener operations, implementing small route changes to a small number of flights to avoid creating trajectories that continue to warm.

credible sustainability

Al Qubaisi said: “Our partnership with Satavia illustrates the possibility of achieving reliable sustainability in day-to-day business operations.

“Satavia technology will enable us to remove thousands of tonnes of CO2 equivalent of climate impact in 2022 alone. We are delighted to have signed this groundbreaking contract with Satavia at WFES, demonstrating our intention to Addressing the non-CO2 impacts of aviation.”

In addition to enabling trajectory management in day-to-day flight operations, Satavia also conducts climate impact analysis for conversion into future carbon credits to be shared with Etihad Airways.

minimal change

Dr Durant said: “By making minimal changes to a small number of flights, an eco-conscious operator like Etihad can eliminate a large part of its non-CO2 climate footprint with little or no impact on day-to-day operations , and the time scale is shorter than other airlines for green aviation intervention.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with Etihad to apply best-in-class science to address aviation’s significant non-CO2 climate impacts. By implementing trajectory management into their flight schedules, Etihad will again paving the way for sustainable flight operations.”

Patrick Moody, British Ambassador to the UAE, said: “Satavia’s pioneering software is helping to reduce jet wakes – a major part of the aviation industry’s climate impact. This is part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Great example of how UK and UAE companies are co-innovating and committed to tackling climate change.” — trade arab news agency
