WORLD NEWS | Four U.S. citizens, permanent residents among Nepal plane crash victims: State Department

WASHINGTON, Jan. 19 (PTI) — Two U.S. citizens and many permanent residents were among those killed in a tragic plane crash in Pokhara, Nepal earlier this week, a U.S. official said.

U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price told a daily news briefing that the U.S. stands ready to support Nepal in any way at this difficult time.

At least 71 people were killed when a Yeti Air plane carrying 72 people crashed into a canyon of the Seti River while landing at Pokhara airport on Sunday, Kathmandu Airways officials said.

One person on the plane is still missing.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic yeti airline crash over the weekend that killed two U.S. citizens and two lawful permanent residents,” Price said. “Our thoughts are with the families of those on board.”

“The United States stands ready to support Nepal in any way during this difficult time,” he said.

Indian-American Congressman Dr. Ami Bera expressed condolences to the victims of the plane crash.

“Deepest condolences to the people of Nepal and the loved ones of those killed in this weekend’s devastating air crash,” Bella tweeted.

The Nepalese government has set up a five-member investigative committee to investigate the crash – the country’s deadliest aviation accident in more than 30 years.
