A group of 25 Pakistani cyclists who were on a spiritual journey to Mecca were stopped by the Pakistani embassy in Abu Dhabi.

The cyclists, who belong to Pakistan’s Cross Route Club, were welcomed on the mission at a luncheon hosted by Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE.

The group is en route to perform Umrah in Saudi Arabia. They set off from Lahore on January 6. In addition to Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, their 60-day journey will pass through Jordan, Iraq and Iran, with a total distance of 14,000 kilometers.

Mukarram Tareen, head of the cyclist group, said passing through these countries would enhance Pakistan’s positive image – its rich cultural heritage, pristine natural beauty and the hospitality of its people.

Tirmizi appreciated the initiative of cyclists to promote Pakistan in different regional countries and said such trips from the country should be organized more frequently.

To mark the occasion, Tallinn planted a tree on the embassy’s grounds.
