question: I got a Golden Visa in 2022 with my husband’s sponsorship. My occupation listed on my Emirates ID is “Housewife”. I recently found a job and a work permit. Should I update my Golden Visa details to reflect my occupation? If yes, what is the procedure for the same?

Reply: Assuming you are employed by a mainland company and since you are a Golden Visa resident of the UAE and are sponsored by your husband, the provisions of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022 on the implementation of Federal Decree No. 33 2021 on Employment Relationships Be applicable.

In the UAE, employers intending to recruit Golden Visa holders can obtain a work permit from the Ministry of Human Resources and the Emirates (MOHRE).

In the UAE, if a wife is sponsored by her husband and intends to take employment, then she needs to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from her husband to the prospective employer before applying to MOHRE for a work permit. This type of permit is for residents who are sponsored by their family members and employed to work at an establishment registered with the Ministry.

Since your residence status in the UAE is “Housewife”, you may not be able to change your occupational status in the UAE Gold Card (Resident Identity Card) from “Housewife” to your future employer’s current occupation/position.

However, if you wish to have a UAE Gold Card (Resident Identity Card) stating your occupation, then you have the option to cancel your existing Golden Residence Visa sponsored by your husband. Thereafter, if your occupation meets the requirements to apply for a Golden Residence Visa based on your designation, experience and salary at your prospective employer, you can apply for the same occupation so that your occupation for which you obtained the Golden Residence Visa may be mentioned as your Golden Residence Visa in the UAE. Occupation on the card (resident identity card).

For further clarification on this matter, if you are a resident of the Emirate of Dubai, you can contact the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, and if you are a resident of any country, you can contact the Federal Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security Authority in the UAE other emirates.
