Al-Ain: The University of the United Arab Emirates seeks to promote knowledge to strengthen its position as a local and global research-intensive university. The University effectively contributes to scientific research for the benefit of all humanity and local communities.
Professor Ahmed Murad, Associate Provost for Research, said that the University of the Arab Emirates is strengthening its connection and engagement with the community and is committed to using its global academic expertise to find suitable solutions to social problems. Universities are producing a new generation of researchers and thinkers.
He added: “The University offers a range of new programs and research opportunities each year to support staff and students in engaging with global themes and programs, which include a variety of strategic areas such as: renewable energy, mobility, Education, health, information technology, water resources and space exploration.
Overall research output is assessed by the number of SCOPUS publications in a given period. According to SCOPUS records as of January 4, 2023, UAE universities produced 2,324 research publications in 2022, of which 1,013 were SDG-related. These 2022 publications have been cited more than 4,628 times.
When analyzing 2,022 publications, 10.8 percent of papers were in engineering, 9.4 percent were in medical and health sciences, 7.9 percent were in computer science, and 6.7 percent were in social sciences.
Dr Ahmed Murad also reported that the quality of research output was assessed based on the percentage of papers published in top journals. In 2022, 26.9% of scientific papers will be published in the top 10% of journals, while 67.3% of scientific papers will be published in the top 25% of journals.
Furthermore, registered and granted patents constitute one of the most important research outputs of any academic institution. A total of 227 patents have been granted by UAE universities so far. In 2022, there will be 28 newly registered patents and 24 authorized patents.
