According to Abu Dhabi Police, a total of 331 drug addicts sought drug treatment and guidance through Abu Dhabi’s smart services in 2022.

Abu Dhabi Police, in partnership with the National Center for Rehabilitation and the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, launched Chance of Hope, a digital service for drug prevention in 2021, which was accessed by 65,374 people last year.

The service can be accessed through the Abu Dhabi Police website or smart app.

Colonel Taher Gharib Al Dhaheri, Head of the Anti-Narcotics Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, said the service helps to provide treatment and guidance to drug addicts and addicts in a manner that ensures complete confidentiality.

“The digital service aims to provide treatment, education and guidance material about the dangers of drugs and how drug users can quit,” he said.

Al Dhaheri said parents need to exercise their due role of supervision and guidance to protect their children and prevent them from falling prey to drugs.

“Families should pay close attention to any unusual changes in the behavior and general appearance of their children, especially adolescents, as this can help in the early detection of their involvement in substance abuse,” he said.

The service also provides sign language teaching materials.

Al Dhaheri added: “The initiative provides drug users with the opportunity to apply electronically for treatment services. The treatment services are provided in coordination with the National Rehabilitation Center and the Zayed People’s Foundation of Resolve.”

The official noted that since its launch, the Chance for Hope service has played an important role in activating community partnerships to limit the spread of narcotics and strengthen relationships among members of society.

The force emphasized the importance of society working together with civic and institutional entities to combat drug abuse and help drug users access treatment by spreading awareness of its consequences.

According to the police, the initiative provides an opportunity for drug users to avoid prosecution, which is in line with Section 43 of Federal Law No. (8) of 2016. The law states that criminal charges cannot be brought against drug users or addicts if they turn themselves in to authorities or their spouse or relatives to seek addiction treatment.
