Car burglaries target new entertainment venues

[ad_1]

British stone. Louis, Missouri (KMOV) – The St. Louis Police Department is investigating a series of car burglaries at City Foundry STL and Armory STL over the weekend. The new entertainment venue has been targeted by thieves several times over the past few weeks.

Danny, who asked us not to use his last name, was one of the victims. He went to meet friends at the Armory and came out an hour later to find a broken window and an expensive antique leather bag stolen

“I know it happens, but you don’t think you’re going to be away for an hour and your car is going to be hit. Your stuff is going to be stolen pretty quickly,” he said.

The Armory STL team released this statement.

“The safety of our customers is our number one concern. We have implemented a number of security measures including metal detectors at all entry points, 24/7 video surveillance of all car parks, additional car park lighting and fencing, and The parking lot is patrolled by armed police. We have been overwhelmed with support and visitors since it opened, and we are committed to keeping the Armory safe and inviting.”

Thieves broke windows and stole items from vehicles parked in the Foundry on Saturday night. As police were investigating, they heard multiple shots and saw a white Honda Accord drive away. According to police, the occupant of the Honda leaned over the roof and began firing several shots with a rifle at the officers and three teenagers who were present.

No one was injured and the vehicle was last seen traveling southbound at Vandeventer.

These criminal activities risked scaring away customers before both businesses had time to gain a foothold. But Cassie Cantrell, who lives in Illinois, said that won’t stop her from visiting the foundry in the future.

“We just have to live our lives, hope nothing bad happens, and be careful. And take steps to be cautious. No, I’m not going to stop eating somewhere because something bad happened,” she said.

Will Smith of City Foundry STL made the statement.

“As City residents and business owners, we were dismayed to hear of break-ins and other incidents at entertainment venues across the city, including City Foundry STL, over the weekend. The safety of City Foundry STL’s guests and tenants is our top priority. Since Saturday night, we have been in contact with city leaders, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, and our security firm to evaluate our security protocols. Our goal from the beginning has been to make City Foundry STL a gathering place for our community. While this is an isolated incident, we will continue to work with local police and our security company to implement the best security practices for our visitors and guests.”
