Royal Marsden Private Care will be highlighting one of its latest research-led cancer treatments, CAR T-cell therapy, and its expertise in treating blood cancers at Arab Health 2023.
CAR T-cell therapy is a new type of immunotherapy that uses the body’s own natural immune system to destroy cancer cells. In some cases, it has cured people when all other conventional treatments had failed.
It works by extracting white blood cells (T cells) from a patient’s blood that help protect the body from infection and disease, then genetically modifying them in the lab to make them better at finding and destroying cancer cells. The T cells are then put back into the body to fight the cancer.

Joining the Harley Street Medical Area (HSMA) stand, The Royal Marsden has been treating several fast-growing non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas and acute lymphoblastic leukemias with groundbreaking CAR T-cell therapy for the past three years.
Dr Mike Potter, Consultant Hematology at The Royal Marsden Hospital, said: “Immunotherapy is incredible. By harnessing the power of the immune system, we can cure incurable cancers in a patient population with essentially no treatment options. We found that accepting Up to 50% of patients treated with CAR-T cell therapy are now cured.
“We are very enthusiastic about CAR T cell therapy for other blood cancers, such as Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma, so this is something we hope to see in the future. This is a very new treatment option, so we It’s early days, but it has the potential to transform cancer care.
